Welcome to “Understanding Land Use Regulations”! This five-week online course will give you the background you need to help you understand the laws under the governance of the State of New Jersey, through the Division of Land Use Regulations. Please read these instructions carefully so you are aware of the steps involved in ensuring you get credit for completion of the course.
The course is divided into 5 different modules:
- An Overview and Waterfront Development
- Coastal Zone Management Rules and CAFRA
- Freshwater and Coastal Wetlands
- Stream Encroachment and Tidelands
- A Land Use Planning Web Quest
You will have 5-weeks to complete all the sections. You may do the course at your own pace (i.e. You can do it all in one day, over a few weeks period, or take all five weeks to complete it….you decide).
Each section consists of 1) a PDF of notes pages that we encourage you to print and use to take notes as you move through the modules, and 2) the module itself, which is a web-based PowerPoint presentation. Note: You may notice that some of the images load up slowly. If you are using a slower connection, some slides may require close to a minute each. If the slides take too long to upload, we have also provided a link to a PDF version that you may want to use instead.
Within each of the Module presentations, there are weblinks that you should click on! These links are provided for you so that you may familiarize yourself with the web-based information and resources that are available though the State of New Jersey as well as other sources. When you are done familiarizing yourself with the webpages, click on the "Back" button in your browser to return to the module itself.
At the end of each module you will be provided a weblink to a short quiz that will test the knowledge that you gained from that section. YOU MUST COMPLETE EACH OF THE QUIZZES TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR THE COURSE! We encourage you to use your notes and the PDFs to assist you in answering the questions. When you have completed the quiz, you will be directed back to the modules selection page.
In order to receive credit for the course you must submit answers to all the web quizzes and the final course evaluation. We will notify you to confirm that you have successfully completed the course. Alternatively, we will also notify you if you have skipped one of the steps you need to ensure that you receive course credits.
